Artists Statement.
I am concerned primarily with landscape. There are other oddities in the mix, but
the ideas of space and place are what drive the things I make.
Layering is the method by which I interpret the landscape around me. Regardless of the media I use, I compose it in a way that conveys, for me, the reality of what I remember about spaces, places and my movement through them.
Since moving back to Vancouver in 2006, my work has increased dramatically in urban subject matter, the result of being immersed in a dynamic city environment that is a study in extremes. I am trying, in my visual records of urban life, to refrain from editing what I see, thereby juxtaposing the natural against the unnatural and the permanent against the temporal.
The juxtaposition is what motivates me to try to record the layers; it is what makes me keep making.
